Dr. Craig Loucks
MSc, MD, FRCSC, AO Trauma Fellow
Dr. Loucks was born and raised in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada. In 1993, he received his undergraduate degree in Life Sciences (B.Sc.Hon) with honors from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He then went on to complete a Masters of Science Degree (MSc.) in Anatomy and Physiology at Queens University in 1995.
Dr. Loucks obtained his Medical Degree, with honors, from the University of Calgary, in Alberta, Canada, in 1998. He then completed a prestigious Orthopedic Surgical Residency at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, Canada. During his final year he served as the Chief Resident at Vancouver General Hospital. He successfully completed his Canadian board certification, in Orthopedic Surgery, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Dr. Loucks is additionally Board Certified through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is licensed and is a physician in good standing with the Colorado State Medical Board. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Orthopedic Trauma Association, the American Medical Association, the Canadian Orthopedic Association, and the Colorado and Denver Medical Societies.
Dr. Loucks has obtained additional training in trauma and total joint replacement. He received specialized training in the surgical management of complex fractures, including pelvic and acetabular fractures, during an AO Trauma Fellowship at St. Anthony's Central Trauma Center in Denver, Colorado. He has specialized training in Pediatric Trauma from the British
Columbia's Childrens' Hospital in Vancouver, Canada. He has also focused much of his time on furthering his education in the area of total joint replacement. He studied under Dr. Clive Duncan at Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Center, performing complex primary and revision arthroplasties. In addition, he has received additional training in the newest techniques of Minimally Invasive Hip and Knee Surgery. In fact, Dr. Loucks, along with his partner Dr. Robert Greenhow, were the first surgeons in the Denver area to perform this minimally invasive and muscle sparing MIS 2 Incision total hip replacement through two very small incisions. Drs. Loucks and Greenhow were the first surgeons in the
greater Denver area to perform the Muscle Sparing Anterior Total Hip Replacement and are currently two of only three surgeons in Colorado who perform this amazing new technique.
Dr. Loucks has been involved in a number of prospective, randomized research studies in Orthopedics and has been honoured with a number of research awards. In addition he has presented at a number of International Orthopedic meetings including the Orthopedic Trauma Association and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He has also
published in a number of Journals including the Journal of Orthopedic Trauma.
In his spare time, Dr. Loucks enjoys playing hockey, skiing, golfing and spending time with his family and friends. His wife, Dr. Jennifer Loucks, is a Rheumatologist in private practice with the Colorado Arthritis Center at Swedish Medical Center. He welcomed the arrival of their twin girls, Sadie and Madison, in November 2005.
